Notes from last time: Kept having to heat mash, didn't whirlpool, straight to fermentation, let sit in fridge for 2 hrs, Didn't care about hops in ferm. Didn't sparge with enough at first, added another gallon, was already in HLT. For this much grain 19.5 gallons is good. Used 100% RO water. I need a burner under mash. forgot to measure grain temp. Mash was around 150.
Kept having to heat mash, didn't whirlpool, straight to fermentation, let sit in fridge for 2 hrs, Didn't care about hops in ferm. Didn't sparge with enough at first, added another gallon, was already in HLT. For this much grain 19.5 gallons is good. Used 100% RO water. I need a burner under mash. forgot to measure grain temp. Mash was around 150.
Watch the sparge volume, heat more, and just use what you need. Put clear beer in one fermenter, sucked the kettle dry to other. The second was full of hops :(. Had two boil overs, that was as much beer as I could make, the sparge volume was perfect, which was about 8 gallons. Added dry hops 10/10/2019 8pm.
Strike water was 170 in HLT, 164 once in mash tun, 153 after grain (I think that is good, I will see what ending mash temp is). These temps were great. I wonder if I should lower mash temp? Maybe try a bit lower next time. 6/2/2019 - added dry hops6/6/2019 - started chilling
Going to try 171 strike temp, because grain and air is warm, like 80F outside. Mash started at 153, 1F too warm.should wort into ferm be 7.5 or 8.5? Find out after this batch.Used 1oz Jarrylo 14.2 hops for first wortmash out was 183, in mash was 165, could go a bit warmer, colloected 11G, 1060Windy, boil wasn't strong enough so OG was low
I will try 166 in HLT
go for 167.5 in HLT
HLT was 169.5, mash with a bit of stirring was 153, 1F too hot
Try 172F strike temp
6F hotter would be 169.14. I guess i will try it, it is cold out.I went with 170/171 and it was still 2f too cold. It was less than 50f outside so the keggles where cold. Heated with brew kettle heater.
I am going to try 165F strike water temp, 6 degrees hotter.Still 1F too low, it got hot and then i chilled with some ice so maybe it was on it's way down.165 = 149 mash, had to heat a bitGravity too high again :(
making strike temp 4f hotter, 164.5I had it 164 and that was 2f too low, had to heat a bit on burner
Mash will take 13.37 gallons of spaceHLT was 165
Brew kettle trub loss needs to be added to batch size for calculation, no?
Add 2 degress to strike temp when not preheating tun.Mash temp was 2 degrees short even though HLT was 164. added some water to bring it up, i did only add 7 gallons of water so maybe that was why. Seems like i collected more like 10 gallons, not 9. I will see how it ends up.
Decided to not pre-heat mash tun. My HLT was 164F, MT was 159F before grain. mash was 149 but then went to 150, perfect. MT stays warm next to HLT
First session on the new single tier system. Mash was 151, pre heat kind of cooled due to needing to tighten valve. I don't want to have to pre-heat.Only lost 1 degree in mash, next to HLT.Mash out got way too hot 174 - Maybe I should try 180 sparge
Make sure my Brew Kettle Trub Loss is 1 gallon, at least. I need to actually measure this.
Started at 155 - dropped to 151 on 9/22 woke up to 71F feremnter, quickly added ice to chiller
Mash temp was 154 @ 40 min in 1/20/2014 - Fermentation temp was around 68 and seemed a bit slow. I threw on the fermentation wrapper/heater.1/21/2014 - Woke up and temp was 71, turned down heater and added cooler ice and set to 69Dry hopped on 2/5 or 2/6 w/ 2 ounces of amarillo simcoe
Mash temp fell to almost 148, using new false bottom 8/29/2014 = 1.014 - Added dry hops
I was one degree shy on mash. I did preheat and temp was exact.
5/12/2013 - Gravity is 1.024 Tastes yummy!
Added dark grains last 15 minutes of mash.
Mash temp was 1 degree less, didn't use 1 gallon boiling water for per heat of tun, just hot tap water. I also was about .5 degrees low on strike temp. Temp dropped almost to 149, it was cold out. This will make for a drier beer. 1051 @ 65F before boil and sugar. Started at 69, temp rose to 72 after 24 hours, cooled back to 69 for 12 hours. 1/14/2012 brought to 70. Very clear, filled the keg and had to dump out some beer. Tasted good, a little yeasty
15 min boil, DME clumped up, Start to finish, 2 hours. 12/19/2012 - Gravity is 1.012 - Added 2 OZ. of Cascade Trouble with CO2. Super carbonated and then ran out of gas.Still having issues with CO2, way over carbed. Took off gas and I keep burping the keg.
