I began brewing around 1995. My wife bought me my first setup from Deja Brew (unfortunately no longer in business) in Norman OK. THANKS JANET! I remained an extract brewer for many years. I was (still am) in the Navy and was not home long enough to delve into the all grain world. I MISSED SO MUCH. Last year a good friend gave me a hell of a deal on his B3 Sculpture. I have brewed more beer in the past year than all the others combined:-)

My son and I wanted to use all ingredients accumulating in brew shop. Followed Imperial IPA style without any regard to type grain or hops.Transferred to secondary 21Apr. SG 1.020. Added hops.....realized at this time, I forgot to add the dry hops in the primary. So I added them to the secondary and added a couple more leftovers.... (.2 oz Centennial 8.7% & .05 oz Cascade 8.9%) Tastes great right now. We will see how it turns out. I may add more hops as I go to a tertiary.Rack #3 28 Apr. ...

All Grain | 11 Gallon(s) | American Brown Ale | 5.7 % ABV
I got this recipe from a friend soon after I started my all grain ventures (thanks Frank!). It quickly became one of my favorites. I have substituted a few ingredients on this batch and it is also the first 10 gallon batch I have attempted. I will keep half of it for my own pleasure and the other half I will give to Andrew when he returns from deployment. Andy is not big on very dark beer, so I will substitute this for the OldGoat Darkness (see notes on my Darkness recipe). My first attempt ...

I got this recipe from Dan Thomas since I haven't been able to make a Hef worth a damn lately. Gave my last batch to a friend who just built a still. Maybe he can make it into something worth drinking! At any rate, I just met Dan a couple months ago and he gave me a couple of his beers. A cream stout and a Firestone Union Jack IPA clone. Both were outstanding! The IPA was better than Firestone! Sorry Firestone, yours is good.....Dan's was better. I am rambling. Dan was good enough to ...

All Grain | 5 Gallon(s) | Unknown Style | 7.3 % ABV
This is a Cascadian Dark Ale recipe that a friend won from Whidbey Island Homebrew Supply (see Facebook page). He promptly deployed and gave me the kit with the promise that I would brew it up and have it for him upon his return. Instead of keeping it for that long, I decided to brew it now and then purchase the ingredients closer to his return (freshness counts!).Preboil gravity 1.047. All Grain + Extract | 5 Gallon(s) | American Barleywine | 12.4 % ABV
I brewed this as a demonstration on 12 August 2012 at the Annual Oak Harbor Pig Roast and Homebrew Competition (with some help from my friends at the Whidbey Island Homebrew Supply) . They not only supplied the ingredients, but Jeremy gave me some tips along the way since this was my first barleywine. I racked it four times to increase the clarity and kegged it on 23 Dec. OG 1.096. FG 1.000! 12.8 % ABV. It will sit until August 2013, when we will share it with fellow homebrewers and ...

All Grain | 5 Gallon(s) | American Brown Ale | 6.5 % ABV
One of my first All Grain beers. This was given to me by a friend (Thanks Frank) who adopted it from a Surly Bender Clone. One of my staples. I have made this a few times now and change it a little each time. The original recipe (Surly) called for all of the specialty malts to be Simpsons (Chocolate = Simpson's Chocolate, Oat = Simpson's Golden Naked Oats, Crystal = Simpson's Medium). I found it hard to get these at my local homebrew supply, so I substituted for an equivalent SRM. Worked ...

All Grain | 5 Gallon(s) | Strong Scotch Ale | 8.3 % ABV
My son found this recipe on the web...not sure where. He modified it and we first brewed it in October 2012. Everyone liked it so much (and it was gone before Christmas) that we brewed it again early December....and it is almost gone again. This is going to become a regular. This is really a Winter/Christmas Spice Ale (21B), but that is not an option in Brewgr. Close to a Strong Scotch Ale. Thanks YoungGoat for a great recipe!
OldGoat Darkness

Brew Session: OldGoat Darkness

by OldGoat on 2/2/2013
 Water Infusion  Mash/Boil  Fermentation  Conditioning
Started with 6.5 gallons of wort. Got a pretty good boil going and boiled for only one hour...boiled off 1.5 gallons....meant to boil off only 1 so I would have 5.5 gal into fermentor. Added hops on schedule. Left aroma hops in for 20 minutes (time it took to cool to 70 deg). Took About 36 Hours To Start Fermenting. Got Home From Work Today (48 Hours After Pitching Yeast) And Fermentation Freezer Was At 77 Degrees (Vice 67). Trying To Fix Now. Hopefully I Don't Get Too Much Off Flavor. Primary Is Going To Town Though. Temp fluctuated quite a bit. Not certain why. I don't have a lot of experience with my fermentation freezer. Possibly overheated just due to fermentation itself? At any rate, while trying to cool it back down to 67, it overshot to 57. Finally stabilized at 67 last night. Transferred to secondary today (5 days in primary). SG 1.015. Kegged on 17Feb (10 days in secondary). SG 1.010. (6.5% ABV). Tastes great. Very hoppy. Will condition for a few wee
