Brewing some Great Beer up North!! I am enjoying brewing my own beer and am trying to master all grain techniques favoring Pale and Brown Ales, Stouts and Old Ales. I look forward to brewing some of the recipes I have seen on here and coming up with some good ones myself. I encourage any comments good or bad as it is my goal to become a great brewer!

Lil' Sparky's Brown Ale

Lil' Sparky's Brown Ale

by Rowdyfish on 11/1/2013
All Grain | 5 Gallon(s) | Flanders Brown Ale/Oud Bruin | 6.5 % ABV
This recipe comes from Lil' Sparky on Homebrew Talk. Saw it and had to add it here. Thanks Lil' Sparky!! Brew Day Change: I substituted Abbey for Victory Malt in same amount...didn't want to change Sparky's recipe as it has won numerous awards and should be brewed using the ingredients below.
HOPOCALYPTICA

HOPOCALYPTICA

by Rowdyfish on 10/8/2013
All Grain | 5 Gallon(s) | Imperial IPA | 7.8 % ABV
This will be a Vienna NW APA that I am brewing for a friend of mine that is paying a visit soon. I need to get on this as his arrival is fast approaching. I am keg hopping for the first time and excited for the outcome. I considered mashing a bit lower.. say 148 for a bit longer.. but its getting cold outside so I wanted a little more body. 152 it is.. 60 min single infusion mash.
LOON EYE RED ALE

LOON EYE RED ALE

by Rowdyfish on 9/27/2013
All Grain | 5 Gallon(s) | Old Ale | 7.3 % ABV
An addition of Weyermann Carared and a hint of Roasted Barley should give this ale a nice red/amber color as well as an upfront maltiness. The finish will be strong with the addition of 1oz of centennial hops at the end of the boil. I decided last minute to add 2 more ozs Cascade to the recipe and will keg hop with it. Didn't change the IBUs but should add some aroma and Cascade hop flavor. Still waiting on "Hopolyptica" as it is still actively fermenting. I need a hoppier brew for my ...
PADFOOT HELLES BOCK

PADFOOT HELLES BOCK

by Rowdyfish on 9/22/2013
All Grain | 5 Gallon(s) | Maibock/Helles Bock | 6.7 % ABV
Sitting here creating... not sure at this point but will know more when I am done.. Input from wife and oldest son. We are building a paler beer here with ingredients on hand and pondering the addition of adjuncts? This is an all-grain 5 gal recipe..... So... final description comments... After compiling and tweaking this I decided on this very simple grain bill. The Weyermann Abbey Malt should add a nice biscuit/nutty malt profile. I went for a mellow hop profile and with the one ounce of ...
American Extra ~ BBQ Stout

American Extra ~ BBQ Stout

by Rowdyfish on 9/7/2013
All Grain | 5 Gallon(s) | Oatmeal Stout | 6.0 % ABV
This will be a first run for me using smoked malt. The special B will hopefully add enough of a raisin flavor..oatmeal for creamy/mouthy feel. Not too hoppy. Truly an oatmeal stout with the "Extra" ABV. Note the full bodied mash profile. Hope it turns out.
Grain Moon Brown Ale

Grain Moon Brown Ale

by Rowdyfish on 8/21/2013
All Grain | 5 Gallon(s) | American Brown Ale | 6.1 % ABV
Making this based on ingredients on hand. Named after last nights full moon which has been given several names over hundreds of years that include Full Sturgeon Moon, the Full Red Moon, the Green Corn Moon and the Grain Moon....Full Blue Moon was added to the list of names last night. Grain Moon was one that we liked. The chocolate malt is a crisp pale chocolate coming in at just 250L. Would work as an American Brown Ale, Robust Porter, Foreign Extra Stout or an American Stout according to ...
Pirate Ale

Pirate Ale

by Rowdyfish on 8/17/2013
All Grain | 5 Gallon(s) | Extra Special/Strong Bitter (English Pale Ale) | 5.2 % ABV
This is my second all grain run and the first recipe of my own. Beer is easy to make and tastes great. Fits the English Ale ~ Strong Bitter for judging
