Efficiency pre boil was 63%, post boil was 60% ; ended up packaging 4.5 gallons after losses
Went to bottle after dry hopping for 5 days and the beer seemed really cloudy, like maybe I stirred up too much of the turn on the bottom. It was thick
Transfer to carboy 12/4/16 ; FG was 1.016, will leave there for a week until bottling
Used well water from Coconino aquifer! Also used rice hulls which are not really needed for BIAB but perhaps it keeps the mash from compacting too much and allows better water circulation...
Adjusted recipe, original scaling was using 65% efficiency but I hit about 74% this time. (see OneNote notes for details) The OG ended up being a bit higher and I made the volume into fermentor a bit more to keep the Alcohol and recipe in profile with APA. I used 2 lbs of DME at 15 min remaining, added irish moss and returned to boil. Then with 10 min left added hops. Then at flame out more hops that I kept in the solution until it was transferred to fermentor.
Ended up with a more water after mash that calculated, I think it was because the corn flakes don't absorb the same amount of water as grain. Both bags of hops I bought were a bit low on AA compared to the recipe and I used them all so I ended just a touch below my target IBU.
1.044 sg pre boil in 5.8 gal of wort ; 66% efficiency ; 12/19/2015 transfer to secondary ... gravity of 1.014 , approx 4.5 gal in secondary
Pitched yeast at 65F and placed fermentor in 65F water bath
Add extra 3 oz of light DME I had left over ; pitched fhe yeast at 67F
After boil had 1.25 gal , added 1.25 gal to get 2.5 gal total.added pinch of irish moss at 10 min left in boil
Didn't cool as fast aa desired due to lack of cold water or filtered ice to pour into. Started at 11pm 12/29 , forgot to aerate a lot, just the stirring to cool down and the oxygen transfering containers through the funnel. On 1/3 transferred to secondary 3 gal bucket. Took FG reading and sampled beer , tasted good! Could taste the floral and citrus note of the hops with a pleasant aroma. Was very cloudy , 2nd fermentation should help. On 1/10 bottled at 1.008 @ 71F Bottled at 1.008 Fg at ...
