Strike water volume of 5 gallons. Due to the open bottom of the Brewzilla, need two gallons to the strike vol. Took the strike water to 154F. After adding the grain only dropped to 150F. Going forward I will begin to add the grain as the water hits the strike temp and slowly add the grain as the water continues to heat. Boil loss was not even .5 gal. Pre-boil PH 4.98, need to look at getting up to 5.2
Mash in at 152 with mash out at 168. Needed 5 gallons of water just to cover the grain bed for the mash. The Brewzilla lifts the mash almost 2 inches above the strike water. I needed to use approximately 2 gallons of sparge water. Adding a sight glass will help in the known volume of the boil. Need to add about another .5 gallon to the boil.
Heated strike water to 168. Lost 8 degrees in the sparge down to 160. Should account for that temp next time. Barely got 5 gallons out of this. I did put the boil and 5 min hops in bags. Dumped the flameout hops right into the wort. May try putting them all in bags next time. Was difficult to fill primary due to all the debris in the bag.
For the Pn of 6.4 I added 3/8 tsp of Lactic acid 88%. Dropped Ph to 5.5. 4 gal of water for mash. 164 degree dropped to 152 in mash. Mashed 60 mins. Single sparge at 164 for 20 mins. Added 5/8 tsp to sparge to drop Ph to 5.8. Used 4.5 gals of sparge. Total boil volume 6.5 gals. Initial vorlof was 2.7 gal. Sparge took boil volume up to 6.5 gal and could have gone to 7gal. Used muslin bags for the hops additions to keep hops in the boil and not on the upper edge of the boil.
Used Solstice Malt Pale as primary grainHeated Strike water to 164, transferred via scooping and then slowly mashed. After 10 mins in the mash tun, the temp was at 149 degrees. Increased the sparge water temp up to 170 to release different sugars as well as make up for the lower 1st mash.
