Added Warrior at 55min 15.8? And 4.4?
Built recirculating chiller to help cool wort faster. Attempted to use pH strips to measure pH. Found out that they are basically worthless. Will get a meter.Split into two 3 gal fermentation vessels to test different dry hop additions.
Mash strike temp was a little high. With grain all mixed in we had 160 F. Added roughly a quart of hose water and mixed longer to get the temp to 155 F.Took the lid off at 30min and got a temp reading of 153.7.Sparge at like 173 strike temp.Initial preboil of 1.038, added 9.5 ounces of dark dme to bump up gravity as well as boiling for an additional half hour before adding any hops.6 gallons starting for actual boil. Adding hops at the very beginning of the boil.Ended boil 2 and a half minutes ...
Brewing in honor of Christian. Did make one slight change to the hop addition. Brought the primary addition down to 45 min vs 60 min to get the IBU's in line with our target. Other than that I resisted the urge to add some leftover grains that I had laying around.Well, the hop bag didn't work. I guess the mesh was too large. No worries.Other crisis is that I spilled a little yeast pouring into the carboy. Because the carboy was so full it was difficult to oxygenate to the degree that I ...
2nd Batch. We LOVED this beer.
Kind of a chilly day. Grain is cool. First time using a "hop bag" and will add Irish Moss as well. Note on next brew session is to adjust the Mash Thickness down to 1.6.6/25/16 - Dry hopped today. Used four cheesecloth bags holding about .5 oz of hops per bag. Will bottle next weekend. 7/9/16 - Bottling day!
Two teaspoons of Irish moss w/ 15 min left in boil
COLD brew day. Temp in garage is 44 F. Had a good mash. Only issue was a slightly stuck sparge on the initial runnings. 1/11 - Added 8oz of Cacao nibs and 2 vanilla beans (scraped insides) into primary. Will let sit until Sat 1/23 when I bottle.
Great session. Only issue is that we ran out of propane at 15 minutes into the boil. We got a new tank and resumed the boil within 15 min.
Ended up needing to drain out about .5 gal of water because grain couldn't fit in mash tun.Beginning mash temp ended up at 157.Brought 1.75 gal of water up to 170 to use as sparge water.Ended up with 7 gal of wort.Added Whirlfloc 1 tablet at 15 minOG 1.064
