Modified version of my original brown ale, this should have a nutty, raisin, toffee caramel flavor and crystal will provide a wonderful color and head retention. *NOTES* The pumpkin is freshly cooked in oven, pulp is taken out and baked for another 10-15 minutes at 400+ to get a small degree of browning and caramelization, and then added to mash. • 3rd Place English Brown Ale Category at 2013 For What Its Wort Homebrew Competition • 3rd Place English Brown Ale Category at 2013 Beehive Brewoff A variation of one of the National Homebrew Big Brew Day recipes (Pointon's Proper). Our homebrew club KC Nanobrews hosted a big brew day on May 4th and I brewed this. I had to change the malt profile to what my local brew shop carried and substituted the hops for what I had on hand.

2013 Pacific Northwestern Wet Hop English Brown Ale

Used wet hops grown in barrels in my yard. Hop measurements are estimated dry equivalents based on how wet or green when picked. For example, the Cascades were fairly wet/green, so I used them at the typical 5:1 (wet:dry) ratio. Centennials were a little drier, so they were used at about 4:1. Willamettes were unusually dry, so they were estimated at about 3:1. Will just have to see how it turns out. I have been fairly lucky so far with my estimates.
