Cleaned garage at about 11 am. Started brewing at about 11:45 am cleaning everything upstairs. 1:45-2:45 mashed at 152F. Beer after sparge before heating was 1.065 gravity. Sparge from about 3-4 pm. I probably should not have added as much during sparging since I had about 2 gallons still in grain but ok. Heated from 4pm to 5 pm. Added hops at 60 minutes and 10 minutes didn't use a bag (didn't have any). Cooled with cooling coil 5 until about 5:50 to bring it down to 72 F. I then ...

It's not uncommon for a homebrewer to craft a homebrew recipe that does not satisfy the specific guidelines of the BJCP style guidelines. For example, a homebrewer might make an IPA recipe and decide they want it to be more bitter or darker than the defined style.
