All Grain Best Bitter homebrew recipe. This homebrew recipe uses the following ingredients: Maris Otter Pale - UK, Black Malt - UK, Cara Malt - UK, White Labs Burton Ale WLP023 Homebrew Yeast.
This has been on tap for about 2 months. Pours deep gold, somewhere around 7-8 SRM, white foam. Floral, estery British yeast, sweet malt aroma. Somewhat rich and sweet on the palate, right as bitterness washes over, then leaves a balanced impression. Medium-light in body (drinks lighter than it is, certainly), with a fairly dry finish. Palate is malty, minerally, a bit of a pomme fruit thing going on.
Serviceable. Not a great recipe. After spending so much time with WY1318, I appreciate the way that yeast balances flavor and intensity. WLP023 is great for some things, but I seem to have lost my touch for brewing with it. The black malt addition seemed come across ever so slightly in the beer, in a way I didn't particularly care for. This yeast is probably better suited for actual cask ale. Something to remember...
