Ready to drink without aging, this ale tastes ready-aged. It has a quite forward toasty malt flavour with subtle IPA tones. It looks great in a goblet style glass and tastes complex, full and invigorating. Lovely lingering bitterness. See notes below for actual malts used.
This ale came out very clear and didn't need finings or filtering. It was very red in the fermenter but developed a very red, almost black colour. Ready to drink immediately it was delicious, subtle IPA hops flavours, toasty malt base and lingering bitterness. 5 stars for this recipe. NOTE: The malts used differ from those listed as not available on this site. Actual speciality malts used were (500g each): Gladfields Redback, Gladfields Aurora, Melanoidin and Crystal 60. Next time will reduce Melanoidin to 250g to lighten colour to deep red (but not as deep as this). Flavour was perfect!
