My friends provided me with a mix of hops that are all grown together so I'm assuming that there's an equal mix by weight. I went to FH Steinbart and picked up some "artisan" malts. Troubadour malts have very strange descriptions so they're worth a try. Opal 44 is supposed to taste like almond roca so how can you not try it? In any case, I'm hoping to have a unique malt base to this year's fresh hop beer. Due to the amount of fresh hops that I'm using, I will be using my mash tun to hold the hops and circulate the wort during flameout.

This recipe was cloned from Northwest Fresh Hop 2017.

Notes:

Mango variant - pours half a finger of foam, orange in color, and good clarity. Aroma is a fairly bright grapefruit aroma of cascade hops followed by malt sweetness. Flavor is more more of a peach cobbler with fruit flavor most assertive followed by a sweet bread. The after taste has a bitter edge that quickly dies off, leaving a sweet breath. Body is medium in viscosity with a little bit of nucleation sharpness. This is more enjoyable than the plain fresh hop, attributable to the fruity character, which is well balanced. I don't get a fresh hop flavor, but that's okay. 4 stars as it's a great flavor, only lacking the more assertive hop character.

Notes:

Color is dark orange and pours about 1 finger of foam. Aroma is Cascade hops at the forefront followed by a malty bread with a touch of sweetness. Flavor is a slight bit of hops coupled with a mild bread flavor and then a fruity yeast ester. There is a very slight bitterness with some hop flavor at the end. As a pale ale, it's pretty good, better than average, but I don't get a strong, fresh hop burst from it. I like the beer in general but it didn't achieve what I wanted. I'll go 3 stars since it is quite good but not what I wanted it to be.
