Not a true pilsner, but pilsner-style blonde ale: adapted from MacBrew Pilsner Recipe: increased SRM slightly, and Reduced IBU's . added oats to maintain ABV while increasing target volume from original recipe. also used homegrown cascade hops instead of centennial (kept original oz saaz per original). otherwise, same recipe as original. For best results, brew this at least 3-4 months prior to consuming and allow plenty of time for secondary and bottle/keg conditioning at near lagering temps. Best served 3-8 months after packaging.

Mash Steps

Special Instructions

1.
Mash at 151 for 90 minutes or longer (overnight okay)
2.
Raise to 170 and sparge until 7 gallons collected in kettle.
3.
Bring first runnings to boil while collecting sparge runnings
4.
Ferment 14 days at 65-68 degrees, cold crash, then rack to secondary or keg
5.
condition at low room temperature for 1-2 months,
6.
Cold age for 2-6 weeks minimum; preferably 2 months (35-40F)

Notes:

great all around brew. just enough corn to provide sweetness to balance the saaz and minimal cascade citrus afternotes. the wife said it tastes like "beer" which tells me it's not too hoppy, bitter or odd flavored for general drinkers. at the same time she said she could see how craft drinkers would like it. sounds like mission accomplished for a recipe like this. similar, but in my opinion ab improvement upon, cream of 3 crops.

Notes:

love this stuff. cascade shines through after a minimal bitter start even before carbing. Saaz flavor hits early and you get some corn sweetness too. this will please many beer drinkers' tastes.

Notes:

This brew went over well served ice cold on tap at a ski trip. General public stated comments like "really drinkable", "refreshing", "light and tastes great". Would brew again with little changes if needed a brew to share at any public event. Could even swap out Centennial for a lower AA hop like Cascade and even up the ABV .5% if desired. Otherwise, no need to change anything.

Notes:

Citrus back end with just the right balance of malt and corn. Nice brew that should appeal to a wide range of preferences. Good staple for tap rotation.

Notes:

got a final pre-carbed sample when racking from secondary to keg. mild saaz hops with slight citrus notes balance out a slightly sweet malt background. should be drinkable, yet not expecting as crisp a brew as intended given the higher FG than desired. will be interesting to see what a month of cold conditioning does to the flavor before serving at the ski trip.

Notes:

Stole a sample when racked to secondary. still at 1.018 after 2 weeks in fermenter. tasted sweet with a hint of caramel. still fermenting, so difficult to know where this will end up. But, assuming it will have a relatively high FG, it should be a mild, pleasing, lower ABV brew that will appeal to the masses. little to no bitterness with faint citrus nose.
