3rd attempt at making biab. Doing smash beer to get more acquainted with all grain brewing.
1.030 pre boil gravity
1.042 pitching gravity on 10/22/2023
1.012 on 10/29/2023
1.012 FG 11/11/2023

Strike water was 164°F
Mash temp stayed between 148-152°F
Mash was 60 minutes
Sparged after bag drained with 1.5 Quarts of water
Boil was 90 minutes.
First hop addition at 60 minutes
Second hop addition at 15 minutes
Ice bath in sink with constant stirring and constantly added ice (used most of 16 lb bag of ice).
Took about 15-20 minutes to cool the wort to pitching temp of 68°F.
Pitched with Safale 05 yeast.
Fermentation visible within 6-7 hours.
Aggressive fermentation slowed by middle of day three in primary.
*10/29/2023 - I forgot to do the second hop addition at 7 minutes instead of 15 in the boil a week ago, so this batch will be more bitter than planned. I checked the gravity and put the beer into secondary fermentation in another 2 gallon plastic bucket. Smell was good, color looked good. No issues yet.
Tasted before bottling, so no carbonation. Aroma is yeast forward and the taste is pretty straightforward and simple. Lots of bread notes. Clarity was decent.
