Special Instructions

1.
Mash of 4 gallons with 2.0g gypsum, 4.80g CaCl
2.
Sparge of 1 gallon with 0.50g gypsum, 1.20g CaCl
3.
Yeast nutrient in at 15 minutes
4.
Flame out hops in with lid on for 10 minutes prior to chilling

Notes:

Pours dark orange with one finger of foam. Aroma is pineapple, very tropical, sweet. Flavor starts with a bit of tropical fruit but is really dominated by sweet what bread flavor that takes on bitterness at the end. Body is medium and carbonation is right on, a little soft. Overall, as an IPA it is lacking the hop punch I was shooting for; it is a decent pale ale though. For the next IPA recipe, I need to simply go with a 2 row base malt and maybe a touch of aromatic, 0.25lb. Not a bad beer but it is not as hoppy as I wanted. 2 stars
