Notes:
This beer turned out better than I could have hoped.
Jet black color, nice tan head, very drinkable--even at an abv around 5.7%.
The nose is strong stone fruit (primarily plum).
Upon drinking, the coffee & chocolate really come through. There is still a fair bit of that fruity (though not estery) plum/peach flavor.
If there is anything to play with on further iterations, I'd like to get a bit more texture to the body. But that is just a purely "cosmetic" tweak.
This beer is stunningly fruity--but, again, not ester fruity--in a way that isn't over-powering or umbrella-drink sweet. It contrasts with the dark malts in a way that means this is a dangerously tasty beer.
Never having heard of the Tropical Stout style, I was hoping to find a crushable dark beer for the warm summer nights. This one hits it out of the park. It will be a regular, without a doubt.
