I read a BYO magazine where Brad Smith recommended dropping all boil additions except for the 60 minute to achieve desired IBUs, then adding high AAU hops as whirlpool or dry hop. So, I will give this a go.

Special Instructions

1.
Mash of 6 gallons with 12.0g gypsum, 1.80g salt, 2.2mL lactic
2.
Sparge of 2 gallons with 4.0g gypsum, 0.60g salt, 0.6mL lactic
3.
Yeast nutrient in at 15 minutes
4.
3oz Cascade leaf and rice hulls in the Randall
5.
Last hop addition will be whirlpool, temp crash from boiling for 30 minutes
6.
Transfer to secondary 24 hours after primary fermentation is done, start dry hopping

Notes:

Pours light yellow with 2 fingers of rocky foam. Aroma is melon, pine, and resinous hops. Flavor is very resinous hop and pine along with a distinct bitterness on the back end. The body is soft yet there is a real sharpness from the nucleation. This is more of a hazy west coast IPA than anything with a truly dense, profound hop character. The hop flavor on this coats the mouth but doesn't linger long. I think this is a good beer but it's not what I was going for. I will give it 4 stars as it is good but not what I envisioned.
