I think we invented a new style with this mistake. this turned out more like a strong Irish Red since we had double the specialty grains we expected and half the 2 row. So we call this an Imperial Irish Red Ale.
Very dark brew. Has a strong pineapple aroma. The crystal malt flavor takes front-stage yielding a very distinct espresso-like (almost burnt toast) taste. The smooth fruity flavors come after the bitterness diminishes and leans toward peach, pineapple and a hint of grapefruit. This turned out to be a blend of a dark irish amber and an IPA, more toward a strong, hoppy Irish Red Ale. Not bad for a botched batch!
