SMASH xtra hops Brew Session

Brew Session Info

(Include any important notes from brew day until tasting)

Mashing this time in pot and in oven at 170 (the min for the oven). Was able to keep at about 150 throughout. Gravity after mashing before boil 1.026. Gravity after boil and cool is 1.05 BUT there's only about 0.75 gal so I have to add 4 cups water, after which OG is 1.038. Lots of suspended solids so we'll see how much settles out - the taste is fantastic even after having diluted with tap water - aroma also quite good. 5/17 - 430 pm - fermentation overflows bubbler so need to install the tube system 5/23 - move to secondary fermenter, gravity is 1.008, slight yeast aroma, kinda sour taste - hopefully this improves, not much bitter 5/30 - trying method of putting hops in 3/4 cup 180degree water, cooling to 70 then adding to secondary (0.3 oz Amarillo 6/6 - seems to be an interesting though a bit weak aroma. FG = 1.010. Taste today is decent, with a noticeable hops aroma and taste. Low ABV for sure, something around 3.7%

Tasting Notes (1)

Tasted on 6/21/2015 by WyoMikey

Notes:

very, very light only slight aroma, nice crisp taste but just very little hops to appreciate, either in the flavor or the bitterness. Also a little bit of that plastic/metallic? taste. Perhaps there's just not enough alcohol in this one to catch the hops flavor. Enjoyable, but tastes more pils than pale.
