AIH Kit. crushed grains and oats together at 0.28inches setting. mash temp met was 149F after struggling to get an initial mash tun temp of 169F, then had 158F and added too much cold water.... Needed a strike water/tun temp of min 162, max of 169F. MUST remember to preheat the mash tun with 3 gal of 200F water!!! boiled 6.8 gal for 90min to increase OG, but had 5 gal in boil kettle and only 4gal to fermenter!! Probably could have done with less boil time since the SUGAR went in in the last five minutes. Not sure how the 90 minutes with the boil hops will work out. Used a 24 hour yeast starter and drained(saved) the upper 1/3 of wort for a future use. did not use the irish moss. Took 30min to get wort down to 74F 7/26 gravity @ 1.028 @67F, ambient 67F 8/5 gravity @ 1.002 @67F, ambient 67F, bottled and then harvested yeast to wash from fermentor. ABV 6.3% yeast attenuation 96%.

Gravity Estimates

Based on boiling 6.80 gallonsliters at 1.040 for 90 minutes, this will decrease your wort by 1.50 gallonsliters, bringing your after boil OG to 1.049.

You wanted an OG of 1.051. It looks like it will be under.

Tasted on 8/5/2021 by Brewer 106882

Notes:

a bit hazy, but no cold crash, all of the sugar for priming did not disolve. Taste of mild hint cinamon with hint of clove and low banana like a hefeweizen, fairly sweet yet even though it finished dry. Creamy mouthfeel. will update after chilling and carbonation along with some settling expected in the bottles. hope for more orange aromatics.
