Right off the bat, this is my first attempt at an all grain batch. I'm not quite sure how this brew will turn out just yet. Here are some speed bumps i ran into along the way. During the mash the strike water cooled down more than expected when added to the grain. The water was 165 deg f and dropped to 142 deg f. It sat there for a good 30 min while i boiled 2 quarts of water and added it to the mash. The temp rose to 158 deg f. A little hotter than I wanted so i let it cool down with the lid off for about 5 min. The temp dropped to about 154 deg f so I put the lid on the mash tun and let it sit for 60 min. During the mash out I drained the mash too fast so the grain bed was too compact and wouldn't let the mash liquid through. This threw off my whole operation. I ended up having to improvise and make a complete mess out of my kitchen. I ended up using a steeping bag and salvaging what i could out of mash. I acquired 4.5 gal for the boil and 3 gal wort into fermenter. OG was 1.078. Cheers!
