sparge time was 20 minutes per sparge. only took one to get my 6.8 gallons boil volume.
Got a bigger 10gal pot.
this time i will be using muslin bags to determine if filtering hops is worth it.
Also, the yeast i used in the 30oct brew was wyeast 1968 and the one im using today is A09 Pub - Imperial Organic Yeast. for both i made a roughly 900ml starter.
i am also using a big strainer after the boil to transfer to carboy.
Yeast starter gravity:1.038
muslin bag instructions: boil bags, i am using 3 pennies per bag to weigh them down today, will follow up on how well that works. seemed to work just fine.
Conclusion after making: my OG was loswer becasue i had a larger volume but i am okay with this. There still seemed to be a lot of hop debris but i could be mistaken, it vertainly seems more clear than the last batch but time will tell. For future i will not use half of a muslin bag, because the hops swell up too much for only half. Took a good 6 hours to brew tody but it was fun and im looking at doing a double ipa next week. Also the bag around the funel was a great idea. today was a much cleaner brew than last time. cheers!
