Mash Steps

Special Instructions

1.
Heat a total of 8 gal to 162 degrees
2.
Add 3 grams each of gypsum and CaCL; 2 grams of Epsom)
3.
Used Palmer's spreadsheet to determine needed minerals
4.
Will use 4.0 gal for mashing and 4.0 for sparging
5.
Mashing: 1.75 qtz of water/pound of grain (~ 4.0 gal)
6.
Brewer's Friend: Mash infusion, strike wtr, and rest schedule calculator
7.
Desired combined mash temperature = 152 degrees
8.
Add water and stir in grains into the mash tun
9.
Mix thoroughly. Mash temperature should be 152 degrees
10.
Seal tun and let stand for 60 minutes
11.
Heat the remaining 4.0 gal to 178 degrees for sparging
12.
Slowly draw liquid from the tun and pour back on top of grain bed
13.
Continue until liquid being collected from bottom is clear
14.
Slowly drain wort while adding sparge water
15.
Collect 6.5 gal of wort and proceed to hop schedule
16.
Boil wort for 5 minutes
17.
Add 1 oz Perle (A)
18.
Boil for 40 minutes
19.
Add .5 oz Hallertau Hersbrucker
20.
Add 1 teaspoon Irish Moss
21.
Boil for 10 minutes, then put Chiller in to sanitize
22.
Boil for another 5 minutes
23.
Turn off heat
24.
Add .05 oz Hallertau Hersbrucker
25.
Cool wort to 75 degrees within 30 minutes
26.
Take hydrometer reading
27.
Port wort into fermenter and top off at 5 gal mark
28.
Pitch vial of Clarity Firm
29.
Pitch dry yeast
30.
Seal fermenter and store at 67 degrees
