Catastrophic Ale Recipe

I\u0027m not quite sure how this brew will turn out just yet. Here are some speed bumps i ran into along the way. During the mash the strike water cooled down more than expected when added to the grain. The water was 165 deg f and dropped to 142 deg f. It sat there for a good 30 min while i boiled 2 quarts of water and added it to the mash. The temp rose to 158 deg f. A little hotter than I wanted so i let it cool down with the lid off for about 5 min. The temp dropped to about 154 deg f so I put the lid on the mash tun and let it sit for 60 min. During the mash out I drained the mash too fast so the grain bed was too compact and wouldn\u0027t let the mash liquid through. This threw off my whole operation. I ended up having to improvise and make a complete mess out of my kitchen. I ended up using a steeping bag and salvaging what i could out of mash. I acquired 4.5 gal for the boil and 3 gal wort into fermenter. OG was 1.078.
