It's a warm one today, 82 degrees now with a high of 84 degrees. First brew in 5 years. Got a late start due to digging out all the gear. Had to run to the store for a thermometer as mine original is missing. This is also the first run with the new BrewZilla, very excited. I also went with locally grown cascade hops which rocks.Programming the BrewZilla to heat to 158 for 3 minutes. Then drop to 149 for 60 minutes. Then 169 for 60 minutes.Accidentally added rice hulls before putting in ...

It's a beutiful 68 degrees out and sunny. Great day! Doing another run of the german pils to fill the coffers.Whent over on the strike water temp. So, had to let it cool. Then undershot the mash temp. Boilded a gallon of water and had one person pour it in while another stirred and I watched the temp. Hit exactly 149 degrees at the end.Mashed at 143 for 20 min, then 149 for 1 hour.

Much like the 39 degree day when I brewed this recipe the first time.I've rounded off the grains and hops to the nearest half pound or half ounce. I also dropped the .2 oz of willamet hops and the .6 lbs of table sugar. I'm hoping to remove a slightly sour subtle note from the finish. I also altered the target boil size from 7.5 to 6.5 gal.Heated the strike water ...

It's 39 freaking degrees out so a little cooler than I was expecting. Also, don't have 1/2 inch ID tubing so had to run back to the WBHS to get tubing.Hit 145 degrees for initial mash temp. Heating an additional gallon of water for the mash.Added 3/4 gallon of 162 degree water at 13 min to hit 149 degrees.Actally mashed for 1:20.Fly sparged near 170 degrees. It wasn't easy to keep the sparge water temp up because it was so cold out.Chilled wort to 75 degrees and loaded the carboy. Pitched ...
