Firestone Walker - Pale 31 clone Based off and modified from https://brewgr.com/recipe/414/firestone-walker-pale-31-recipe Goal is to maximize yield of 9gal and maintain Pale 31 qualities, modifying out some English bullshit, using 35Liter (9.25gal) Brewzilla. Mods- Used different American Ale dry Yeast Packets, quick starting? Remove Maris Otter and Replace with mix of 2-row, Munch Light, Caramel/Crystal 30, Carapils,, and some leftover Crystal 60 and dextrose. Remove Fuggles and Replace with Citra and modify boil times to best achieve taste profile and IBU target of 45 though it will likely be higher. Used this tool for more info on hop taste profiles https://beermaverick.com/hops/hop-comparison-tool/ Results: 1.031 OG. Suspect the 2-row was not milled (noticed before mash) so only ~40% efficiency from 2-row (this reflects the 4lb of 2-row shown here in recipe when 10lb was actually used in mash). The rest of the grains were calculated @ 75% efficiency overall. Always check to make sure your grains are milled/crushed. Solution to raise gravity after primary fermentation 1 week later (beer still smelled good): Added 1packet 1056, 2lb Pilsen DME (~.5gal w/ warm water), and 2 cans of yeast nutrient canned wort (.5gal, ~1.040 SG, darker SRM, *reflected in recipe as 1lb LME 30L bc no option to add it*) split evenly into carboys for secondary fermentation. Lots of head, more body and color. Expecting minimum 4.25% abv, maximum 4.75% abv.
