My recipe for the 2024 Catalina Wort Mixer. I spun "Standard American Beer" with the modifier of "Breakfast Cereal". Of the four options for Standard American Beer, I eliminated two since I do not have the means to lager a beer. That left me to choose between a Cream Ale and a Wheat Beer. I haven't brewed a Cream Ale yet so I thought I would use this opportunity to try it.
As for the breakfast cereal choice, I eliminated all chocolate and peanut butter options because I feel they would clash with the base beer. I considered honey-centric cereals because they seem like they would mesh well with the base beer. However, my favorite type of cereal is fruity/citrusy and I feel that flavor would work well with a Cream Ale. I chose Fruity Pebbles because I think the lemony flavor will pair vary well with this style.
I chose 2-row over the traditional 6-row because I haven't worked with 6-row yet, and there seems to be a lot of conflicting opinions and findings when it comes to showing if 6-row is really that much different than the modern day 2-row. I also saw conflicting research on whether or not to protein rest 6-row. I definitely want to experiment myself with 6 vs 2 row and protein rest vs not, but not for this competition.
