Coffee Stout Brew Session

Brew Session Info

(Include any important notes from brew day until tasting)

Brewing tomorrow, just getting my water ready a day ahead. Marsh temp came in at 157.6, so a bit high, the end temp for the 60-minute mash was 156.5. Gravity reading after the mash was 1.048 for 7.2 gallons, looks to be on target after the boil. Ended up with 6 gallons at 1.056, just below plan. Overall, fairly smooth day considering that it's been a long time since I brewed. The sample I took at the end of the boil tasted great, nice coffee flavor coming through. I added 16 oz of concentrated cold brew coffee mixed with 5 oz of sugar to the beer on 2/12/25, fermentation kicked off again for a couple of days. Bottled 59 bottles of Coffee Stout on 02/26/25. Smells and tastes good, coffee flavor is nice, this beer finished higher than planned but FG readings have been constant for well over a week, it doesn't taste sweet, it has a nice body to the beer though, I wonder if my mash might have been a little warmer that I measured. Anyway, it's bottled and I'll taste it in a couple of weeks. I brewed this for the FIL, he asks for a coffee beer every year.

Based on boiling 7.20 gallonsliters at 1.048 for 60 minutes, this will decrease your wort by 1.00 gallonsliters, bringing your after boil OG to 1.055.

You wanted an OG of 1.057. It looks like it will be under.

Notes:

Nice beer, clean ferment, a bit under carbonated, but with a finishing gravity of 1.016 I expected a full-bodied beer, it seems a bit thin and not rich like I was hoping. It's good, nice bitterness and coffee flavor but If I brew this again, I'll add some carapils to round it out a bit.
