Imperial Julius looks like egg drop soup coming out of the package. Hops during flame out gave off a very melon like aroma, which I'm not jazzed about. Unremarkable brew day otherwise. 5/17 - bottled. Incredible flavor and aroma, fruit and resin. Even uncarbonated the sample was delicious.

Gravity Estimates

Based on boiling 5.20 gallonsliters at 1.059 for 30 minutes, this will decrease your wort by 0.50 gallonsliters, bringing your after boil OG to 1.065.

You were planning on an OG of 1.065 so you are right on track. Nice job!

Notes:

Pours 1 finger of slowly dissipating foam, dark orange in color. Aroma is of resinous and pine orange juice, like smelling hops. Flavor leans much more towards resinous pine though there is an undertone of orange juice there as well, little bite of bitterness at the end that lingers. Body is medium and nucleation is slightly sharp. Overall, this is what I've been going for in an IPA. It is not a perfect beer, but I would put this up against any brewery IPA. I don't know that I can improve much on this though I'm anxious to follow this recipe and change out hops. 5 stars.
