(Include any important notes from brew day until tasting)
I did not create this recipe in BrewGR prior to buying the ingredients. The original recipe called for 1.093 OG and a FG of 1.018.
1) I used too much water for the recipe being that it was a 5 gallon recipe, but had a 7 gallon boil. This is effects the OG because the wort is deluted after a 1 hour boil. There was 5.75 gallons put into the carboy. Also, this will effect the oevrall color becuase not the colors are not as condensed.
2) The yeast starter is the main reson for the abv loss. This was a high gravity beer and should have had a 2 step starter accompanied by a second wave of oxygen AND yeast nutrients after fermentation started. The FG was 1.025, but should have been 1.018-1.016.
16 OZ of Makers Mark was added to 1lb of whole coffee beans and a split vanilla bean for 4 days. The coffee beans were taken out and the vanilla was allowed to sit in MM for another 2 days.
Beer was cold crashed on 12/9 at 45 DF for 2 days. Beer transfered into a glass carboy with MM slurry. Will give updates when i have them.
UPDATE 12/20: Beer tastes a little flat and roasty similar to watered down coffee. The following was implemented:
16 ounces of Makers Mark soaked in 1 lb of medium roast Pete’s Coffee and a vanilla bean for 4 days. Dumped into secondary along with beer. Allowed to soak for another week. Kegged and carbonated. 4 ounces of cocoa nibs were put in vodka and added to keg. 1 lb of lactose was boiled on stove top in 16 oz of water. Cooled and added to keg.

Gravity Estimates
Based on boiling 7.00gallonsliters at 1.065 for 60 minutes, this will decrease your wort by 1.00gallonsliters, bringing your after boil OG to 1.074.
You wanted an OG of 1.092. It looks like it will be under.
