more careful with sparging this time - colander within brew bag, slower process, less spillage.
Try to start with close to 2 gal boil since I seem to lose 0.75 to 1 full gallon in the 60 min boil.
While I used 2 gal total water plus 1 cup for mash/sparge and first run made sure I had 1.75 gal runoff, the second run produced less than 1.5 gal, so I'll need to add water to boil to assure that I get 1.25 after boil since I seem to lose about 0.25 to grub.
After collecting the residual wort the volume got to perhaps 1.7 gal. By 20mins into boil volume down to 1.5. After 40 mins volume down to 1.25. added 2 cups water at 40mins.
Still about a cup short of full gallon after cooling and into primary (gallon jug), but OK, because I added a cup from the yeast starter which completed the full gallon.
Much more cloudy on the batch today than yesterday but OG much higher at 1.050
5/24 - to secondary, gravity 1.012, pretty clear - taste is similar to the Amarillo smash of yesterday, that sour sort of taste has me a bit worried, but maybe that's just the single pale malt and the dry hops will add more flavor. Wishing though that I'd added more bitter.
5/30 - trying an experiment to simulate 'hop-burst' - 3/4 cup water to 180, add 0.3oz (or 0.5, not sure) hops, cool to 70 then add to secondary
6/7 - bottled. FG 1.012. there IS a nice aroma and the taste, while not that bitter has a nice flavor. 4.75 22 oz bottles. A troubling bit of haze at bottom of secondary on this one - hopefully not infected but no odd flavors.

Gravity Estimates
Based on boiling 1.70gallonsliters at 1.026 for 60 minutes, this will decrease your wort by 1.00gallonsliters, bringing your after boil OG to 1.041.
You wanted an OG of 1.056. It looks like it will be under.
