Tuesdays Gone Brown Ale Brew Session

First runnings are 1.047. Mash and boil went according to plan. Chilled the wort to 105F and ran off half the volume into one fermenter for the Loki yeast. I checked the temperature right before pitching and it was 100F. About an hour later, I put the heat wrap on the fermenter and plugged it in. As for the Cal Common yeast fermenter, I chilled the wort down to 70F before running into the fermenter and pitching. I aerated both worts for 45 seconds with O2 prior to pitching. 2/27 - a little over 24 hours later and the Loki is winding down, nearly done. The Cable Car is still chugging along. 3/2 - yesterday I added 2oz of cocoa nibs along with tincture liquid to the kveik version. Today I took off the heat wrap from the kveik beer. My plan is to bottle this on 3/5 or 3/6. I have another tincture of cocoa nibs going for the call common version, but won't add that till 3/7 or 3/8. 3/5 - bottling the kveik beer today. 3/13 - bottling the cable car beer today.

You wanted an OG of 1.052. It looks like it will be under.

Notes:

Pours 1.5 fingers of foam in an opaque black, brown on the edges of the glass where the light is more prevalent. Aroma is almost non-existent to me, perhaps a little bit of chocolate. Flavor is sort of a chocolate coffee flavor, with coffee cake notes. Mouthfeel is thin, like Guinness, and carbonation is very soft. Overall, the water profile is spot on and the beer is pretty good. The only thing it's lacking is more flavor - more nutty and chocolate flavors. 4 stars.
