Being that it's near impossible to find a historical recipe for burton dark ale, this is my best guess based on my reading and from Burton Bridge Brewery's Tickle Brain burton ale. Burton ale historically used a significant amount of Amber malt. The crystal malt is a contemporary addition.

What Styles Are These Recipes?

It's not uncommon for a homebrewer to craft a homebrew recipe that does not satisfy the specific guidelines of the BJCP style guidelines. For example, a homebrewer might make an IPA recipe and decide they want it to be more bitter or darker than the defined style.
