This here is a real "duct-tape version" of our Jamil Zainasheff-inspired house-Chocolate Milk Porter recipe, put together with what I could get locally and stuff I already had on hand. Changes include the use of British Dark DME, a mix of American and Belgian Chocolate malt to equal 12 ounces (hence the odd measurements) and some Maltodextrine. Gone are the East Kent Goldings and Willamette, replaced by Brewer's Gold, Chinook and Cascade. For more color, The Dark DME will be boiled 60 minutes. ...

It's not uncommon for a homebrewer to craft a homebrew recipe that does not satisfy the specific guidelines of the BJCP style guidelines. For example, a homebrewer might make an IPA recipe and decide they want it to be more bitter or darker than the defined style.
There are plenty of great homebrew recipes that fall into this category and they should not be overlooked.
