Mash Steps

No mash steps in this recipe

Special Instructions

1.
Pour 4.5 Litres of boiling water into mash tun to preheat it
2.
Boil 9.5L strike water to 70c (Target Mash Temp is 64c to create more beta amylase)
3.
Dump preheat water from mash tun
4.
Add strike water to mash tun
5.
Add grain, stir well. Mash for 60 mins, Stir no more than twice.
6.
Boil 27L water of sparge water
7.
Collect 3.5L of 1st runnings and (carefully) pour back into mash tun
8.
Repeat until mash runs clear (no grain)
9.
Pour mash into brew kettle
10.
Sparge mash & run off
11.
Repeat until desired amount is in brew kettle
12.
Bring to boil - do not let boil over!
13.
Take pre boil reading
14.
When boiling, add Amarillo & fuggles hops @ 60 mins
15.
Add willamette and centennial @ 30 mins
16.
Add sugar 20 mins before end of boil
17.
Insert wort chiller 10 mins before end of boil
18.
Add orange peel & nutmeg 10 mins before end of boil
19.
Add cascade @ 1 min before end of boil
20.
Add honey at flameout
21.
Let cool to 22c (approx 20 mins)
22.
Take OG reading
23.
Santize fermenter & other equip
24.
Stir well and pour into fermenter
25.
Pour yeast into wort
26.
Ferment for 1 week and add dry hops
27.
Ferment for 1 extra week

Notes:

This didn't come out as well as expected. No off notes I think, and still drinkable but just lacking body and not more-ish at all. Probably should have mashed at a higher temp?!
