Re-brew of earlier date bock. Wanted to make it maltier. Added Melanoidin Malt, removed CaraMunich. Boiled 1st runnings 20 min. Blended dates with boiled wort, returned at 15min. Brewed on propane brewer vs stovetop - much better boil. Fermenting at mid 40's (4/9/14), will rise temp to mid 60's when gravity = 1.028. 3/22/14 gravity hit 1.030, raised temp to 60's (kitchen ambient) 3/24/14 moved carboy back downstairs to mid 40's -will check gravity later (sample tasted great). FG ended at 1.012 (probably due to the dates). Blended with 1.5gal DINRDD MK1 to fill a 5gal keg, chilled to 40f, 10psi for 3 days. beer ended up a little light/winey due to the addition of the Dates without Date aroma. As a lager it is crisp and clean tasting, with the 7% alcohol well hidden with a healthy head and lacing. I would re-brew without the dates because they brought so little to the beer. ** NOTE ** So when i was designing this recipe, i failed to calculate the dates as a fermentable fixed 5/5/14
