Imperial Pilsner / American Double Pilsner fermented with ale yeast. Malted barley added for richer flavor and higher alpha hops than standard Noble varieties for a more intense front end bitter. Boil the wort for 90 minutes instead of the usual 60 minutes since Pilsner malt produces more dimethyl sulfide (DMS) than other grains. DMS contributes a cooked corn or vegetable flavor to the beer, so boiling for an extra 30 minutes with the lid off will drive away this unpleasant compound.

Haybrews! I've never had an Imperial Pilsner. Do you have a favorite commercial Imperial Pilsner you'd recommend to get introduced to the style?

Heavy Seas Small Craft Warning is an Uber Pils and Sam Adams Imperial Pils are my favorites. I see on BrewGR, dbrewerman has a C-4 Imperial that looks tempting to try http://brewgr.com/recipe/1677/c-4-imperial-pilsner-imperial-ipa-recipe#comments.
