Brew Log

Not doing the multi-step mash. Just doing a single infusion to mash at 150 for 60 mins. Campden tablet added to 6 gallons of water. Pre heated mash tun. Leftover water from mash tun preheat used for preheating the HLT.

Temp came in a bit low when I did the initial mash. Added a couple pots of 180 degree water to bring it near 150 around the 30 minute mark. Trickle sparged over 60 minutes.

Boil went as expected. Took a while on the stove to get there but then I had a good rolling boil for 60 minutes solid. Hop additions at 60, 20, and 10 minutes. Whirlfloc at 10 mins.

Original gravity came in really low. I suspect it's due to the low mash temp. Not the first time this happened. I need to figure this issue out. Sample I tasted was really good. Not as astringent as others but bitter and malty. Should mellow out to a great session beer if the final gravity holds up.

Only wound up with 5.5 gal in the fermenter. This is fine but I expected more since I had 6 gal easy after boiling. Auto siphon clogged with hops and proteins. Had to put a lot more cruft to get 5.5 gals than I expected.

Update: Ok wow. After secondary the beer was really clear. The US-05 ate up every last bit of sugar in this recipe, it seems. FG was 1.002 somehow. Didn't think that was possible. Took a sample while kegging and the flavor was pretty good. Beer was clear and looked really nice.
